Kanye West – Love Lockdown [2008 MTV Video Music Awards]

By Joseph

Last night Kanye brought the house down debuting Love Lockdown, a new single off his 4th upcoming studio album (the title has yet to be disclosed), closing the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. The single is a big departure from what most fans will recognize, as the entire song is sung with auto-tune without any rapping.

To understand the true genius behind the performance, hit the jump.

Last year Kanye infamously left the 2007 MTV VMAs ranting about failing to produce any moon men. In the video, he swears to never come back to MTV again, for crossing him not once, but two consecutive years. This video made the news waves and was publicized all over the net, baffling everyone when it was announced that Kanye would be closing this year’s VMAs. Then just 48 hours prior to the ceremony, Kanye blasted this message out via Twitter:

Whether this was all planned, the buildup to this year’s performance was beautifully marketed and set up.

the best part of the VMA’s was Kanye West’s performance at the end… the worst part was the host (what’s with the accent?)
