Flares are back. Even Kate Moss has given her skinnies a break and started sporting the wide legged look. I was hesitant at first because the last time I wore flares was probably during the ’90s, and while the ’90s look has made a comeback on the scene, one should still proceed with caution. Think Ali McGraw or Jane Birkin, rather than mom-jeans.

J Brand is one of my favorite denim brands right now for their great selection of styles. They have skinnies with leg openings of 10″-12″, a 14″ straight leg, as well as bootleg cuts and flared styles… not to mention at least two different rises and different inseams. The fit is always consistent and flattering (no muffin topping). I decided to try their 22″ Lovestory jean. The look is casual but sleek, and with the dozens of washes the style comes in (like with all of their denim), it can be dressed up or down.
The Raphe wash (pictured) is perfect for a more casual take and looks great with a basic white tee. To dress it up, try a darker wash (such as Ink or Lapis) and pair with a dark, fitted vest and a tank, but keep it simple. For an elongating effect, keep the hem long and pair with your most killer platforms.
